Client Industry – Educational Sector
Project Value – £300k
Project Description – The aim of the scheme was to refurbish a listed building to a high standard and stabilise the substructure.
Works Description – The location was adjacent to Durham Castle in the heart of Durham.
The aim was to provide a high standard of finish whilst being sympathetic towards the listed status of the building.
The building was suffering from subsidence thus mini bore piling and underpinning was undertaken to provide stability. Care had to be taken when excavating due to the potential for items of archaeological interest being uncovered. A team of archaeologists were on hand throughout the excavation process to review items as work proceeded.
Internally all of the sash windows were overhauled and repaired in line with English Heritage requirements.
All finishes internally were renewed including the carpets and decoration. A new kitchen and pantry were installed and bathrooms were upgraded to modern design.
